Business and Tourist Nonimmigrant Visas
If you wish to enter the United States for business purposes, tourism, or medical needs, in most cases you will need a visa from the United States government. A business visitor visa is referred to as a B-1 visa. A visa for pleasure, tourism or medical purposes is referred to as a B-2 visa. If you wish to obtain a visa, it is important to first talk with an attorney about the requirements.
The lawyers of the Cleveland-headquartered law firm of Robert Brown LLC, our lawyers have extensive experience in employment-based immigration and can guide you through the process of obtaining a B-1 or B-2 visa for entrance into the U.S.
Business Visitor Visas (B-1)
A B-1 visitor visa is appropriate when the purpose of your travel to the U.S. is to:
- Discuss investments, sales or purchases
- Conduct negotiations
- Attend and participate in business meetings
- Interview job applicants and hire staff
- Conduct business research
In order to qualify for a B-1 visa, you must show that there is a purpose for your trip, that there is a limited period in which you will remain in the U.S., that there are funds to cover your expenses in the U.S. and that you have a residence outside of the U.S. that will insure a return abroad at the end of your visit.
Tourism and Medical Visitor Visas (B-2)
Individuals who live abroad but wish to visit the U.S. for recreational reasons, including tourism and visits with friends or relatives, as well as rest, medical treatment or participation by amateurs in music or sporting events may apply for a B-2 visa.
B-2 and other visa applications are subject to greater scrutiny than in the past, making it important to complete the application process correctly and in a timely fashion. Robert Brown LLC will advise you on the right type of visa for your visit and can guide you through the process with confidence.
