Nonimmigrant Religious Workers Visas in the U.S.
The R visa is for foreign nationals who wish to enter the United States on a temporary basis to be employed by a non-profit religious organization. The religious worker must be coming to the U.S. in order to work as a minister of a denomination, as a professional for a religious organization or in another religious vocation or occupation for an organization affiliated with a religious denomination.
At the Cleveland-based law firm of Robert Brown LLC, our experienced immigration law attorneys can assist you in applying for an R-1 visa to come to the United States. Learn more by calling us toll free at 888.861.4414.
Applying for an R Visa
When attempting to obtain an R visa, religious workers must submit Form I-129 to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). After the government approves the petition, the religious worker will need to file an application for an R visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate office in his or her home country.
Our attorneys will help you gather the appropriate supporting documentation. In order to qualify for an R visa, you must show that your sponsoring religious organization is tax exempt, that you have been a member of the denomination for the past two years and that your employer belongs to the same denomination. The application should include a complete description of your job duties and salary.
