The application
We advise clients about the requirements for naturalization. There are different residency requirements, depending on issues such as military service, asylum status and marital status. It is important to have an experienced immigration lawyer assist with the completion of Form N-400, which is the application form for naturalization. Our law firm will discuss the requirements and advise people about potential problems, such as criminal convictions, drug and alcohol problems, and other matters that may make it difficult prove your “good moral character.”
Fingerprinting and documentation
We advise clients about the needed documents and help them obtain them when needed. We make sure they know how the fingerprinting requirement works and where it will be performed.
The interview
Our attorneys are dedicated coaches of clients facing the citizenship interview. We help you prepare and even conduct brief mock interviews to give people a sense of the substance of the interview.
The test
We help people prepare for the English language and civics tests. The English test has reading, writing and speaking portions. If you are unsure of your ability to pass this test, we can help you find a class to improve your skills. The civics test requires a basic knowledge of the way the U.S. government works. We can help you find appropriate practice tests.
The decision
If you pass both tests, you will receive notification and an invitation to a naturalization ceremony, where you take the oath of loyalty. If you do not pass the tests, you will receive a date for a second test that will allow you to prepare more thoroughly.
