Many college students found their dreams dashed when the Senate voted down the DREAM Act last week as the 111th session of Congress draws to a close.

The DREAM Act was proposed legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as children. Under current U.S. law, undocumented children immigrants are allowed to enroll in public schools through high school. But after high school graduation, their educational and career options are severally limited because of their illegal status.

According to the Migration Policy Institute, over 800,000 undocumented immigrants would have benefited had the DREAM Act become law.
