More Time for Haitians to Re-Register for TPS

CIS extended the time to January 29, 2013 for Haitians to re-register. Haitians in the US that were previously approved for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and want to extend their TPS that status for 18 months more need to re-register. Due to the recent impact of Hurricane Sandy on areas in the US where Haitians reside, the re-registration period that was closed as of November 30, 2012 has been extended through Jan. 29, 2013.

Qualified Haitian should file as early as they can. CIS indicates they will accept applications from eligible individuals that applied after the close of the re-registration period on Nov. 30, 2012, but CIS is not clear if they will accept the applications that have had been filed late or those that filed late need to submit their applications. Again the deadline for filing is before January 30, 2013.

There are about 60 thousand Haitian nationals others that are qualified to apply. Haitian nationals who entered the United States after January 12, 2011 are not qualified for TPS.
