I Visa: Representatives of Foreign Media

Cleveland Immigration Lawyer

The I visa, commonly referred to as the media visa, is required for anyone travelling to the United States in order to perform work for the foreign media. Even foreign nationals who live in countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program are required to obtain an I visa, provided that they are entering the country for the purpose of news reporting and similar activities. The I visa is required for reporters, film crews, editors, and individuals working in similar occupations, and it is available to those who are bona fide representatives of media and whose job activities are essential to the functions of the media organization.

In order to obtain such a visa, you must submit a Form DS-160, Online Non-immigrant Visa Electronic Application via the U.S. Department of State website and must have a valid passport and provide a personal photograph. To prove your eligibility for the media visa, you will have to provide documentary proof of employment, such as a letter from your employer, a contract as a freelance journalist, or a letter from a production company that has commissioned your project. It is also necessary to provide evidence that you have a home office in a country outside of the United States. Your spouse and children under the age of 21 may also be eligible for the I visa and can study but cannot work during your stay in this country.
