Interview with Attorney Robert Brown

  • What made you choose a career in immigration law?

In 1972 fresh out of college, I had applied for a position with the US government and called for interview with the US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). Within a week of beginning employment with the INS I was hooked. I had an opportunity to work with people from all over the world from all walks of life. It was an opportunity to help and I took it.

  • In your opinion, what sets your immigration firm apart from other firms in the area?

We have the ability to draw on an inside working knowledge of the principal immigration agencies as well as having a team of dedicated knowledgeable exceptional attorneys to provide individual clients and business organizations the best in legal representation.

  • Tell us about a case that you are particularly proud of:

Having worked in the field of immigration law for more than 5 decades there have been thousands of cases from which I have drawn a great deal of satisfaction. I am particularly proud of those cases where we have successfully reunited or been able to keep a family together when they have been through the process and had been told no, especially in those instances when young children with illness are involved.

  • What steps do you take to prepare for a difficult case?

Each case is unique and each case may call for a slightly different approach. Preparation begins with an in depth review with the client of the facts, a thorough review of the relevant law, a comprehensive assembly of available evidence and eventual step by step presentation to the deciding official whether that official is an immigration adjudicator, consular office, immigration judge or federal court judge.

  • How do you view your role in the attorney-client relationship?

My role as the representative of the client is to work in the client's best interest; sometimes that role requires mediation, sometimes times creative legal argument and sometimes as an advocate and most times a combination of all.

  • What sets you apart from other attorneys – why is this important?

Building trust through a deep understanding of the law and the immigration process as well as many years of experience working with persons of various backgrounds as they go through perhaps the most stressful situation many have faced in life is important to a successful resolution.

  • How does having experience benefit your clients?

Experience not only gives and understanding of what needs to be done to be successful in representing clients it also enables us to eliminate wasteful approaches to a client's goal. We are able to resolve issues simply and directly often saving the client time and resources.

  • What types of cases do you specifically handle?

All immigration related matters whether they are individuals or major corporations seeking visas as immigrants or non-immigrants, naturalization, employment eligibility, or relief from removal or deportation.

  • In your opinion, what is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

When a client obtains the result they want.

  • What advice do you most often give your clients & why?

Patience. The immigration process is slow, stressful and often exacerbating to a client. They need to be prepared for long haul.
